Scenic Rim music lovers are invited to be swept away by the hauntingly beautiful music of three classical composers as the Queensland Symphony Orchestra's Chamber Players create a musical montage with their Haunting Vistas concert in May.

Combining works by Franz Schubert, Peter Sculthorpe and Madeleine Dring, this intimate concert at the Boonah Cultural Centre on Saturday 25 May combines classical and more contemporary compositions that open a new window on to the musical landscape.

The rocky outcrops of the Northern Territory's Kakadu National Park provided the inspiration for String Quartet No.12, a deeply evocative work by Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe (1929-2014), that captures the sounds of nature and the earth.

As a composer of note, British actress and musician Madeleine Dring (1923-1977) had more than one string to her bow. Her captivating Trio for Flute, Oboe and Piano, composed in 1968 for her husband, oboist Roger Lord, echoes the influence of French composer Francis Poulenc whose work she admired.

With pieces hand-picked by Queensland Symphony Orchestra players, this concert provides the audience with an opportunity to get close to the music in an intimate setting in which each musician has to be both a soloist and a team player.
